Happy Friday, 315. Saturday is the busiest single day of the summer so far. The 83rd CNY Scottish Games take Long Branch Park from 9am to 8pm with heavy events and pipe bands on the shore of Onondaga Lake, the 1000 Islands Art & Craft Festival fills the Cerow arena in Clayton, and Moravia runs the Parade of Tubs and the bathtub races at Fillmore Glen at 1pm. Little Falls is four days deep into its 39th Canal Celebration, Utica has Polish Days at the Polish Community Club, and Lewis County throws open its farm gates from 9am to 4pm. Pick a direction and go.

The music slate is unusually deep for a single week. The Outlaws play The Showroom at Turning Stone on Friday, the Happy Together Tour brings The Association, The Troggs and Gary Puckett to the Crouse Hinds Theater the same night, and Something Wicked stacks twenty bands across two days at Rome Community Theater. CMAC gets Zach Top on Saturday and Blues Traveler, Gin Blossoms and Spin Doctors on Sunday, while Oteil Burbridge closes his run at Lincoln Hill Farms. Garrick Ohlsson plays Beethoven's Fourth Piano Concerto under the stars at Anyela's Vineyards on Saturday, and Rome gives away eight hours of jazz on the lawn at Beeches Manor on Sunday, ending with Gap Mangione.

The North Country does what it does best in August, which is put a free concert on the water almost every night. KEX plays jazz on the Cape Vincent village green on Saturday afternoon, Lilly & the Loud Music Company take the Sackets Harbor Battlefield lawn on Sunday, Lowville has the Nelson Brothers on Tuesday, the Norwood Brass Band plays Alexandria Bay on Wednesday, and Dave Scanlin closes the week at Frink Park in Clayton. Running underneath all of it, painters spend August 5 to 9 working anywhere inside Jefferson County, then sell the results at Thousand Islands Winery on Sunday afternoon.

Quieter picks: the Civil Air Patrol does pancakes at the EAA hangar in Fulton on Sunday morning and, weather permitting, hands out free airplane rides to kids through the Young Eagles programme. The Capitol Theatre in Rome opens Capitolfest early on Thursday with the 1932 comedy If I Had a Million. Auburn's Seward House puts Shakespeare in its gardens the same evening, free. This week's Foodie Corner heads to a marina at the western tip of Oneida Lake for Barado's on the Water, a restaurant that kept going after losing the chef who built its menu. More on that below.

Grammy-winning Imani Winds take kids through the five wind instruments at Mandana Barn, joined by steel pan artist Andy Akiho. Kids free, adults $5 at the door, and bring a chair.

Two days on the water at 328 West Kirkpatrick Street with tacos, Rancho La Gloria margaritas, live music and fireworks. Runs noon to 10pm again on Saturday, with proceeds going to La Casita Cultural Center.

The last Friday of the Clinton Square series brings RYDHER and Wagner3000 for a night of rock tributes. Free, with food trucks, vendors and a bar. Pets welcome, chairs encouraged.

Syracuse Shakespeare-in-the-Park stages Shrew free at the Thornden Park Amphitheater, directed by Hannah Malone. It plays Friday and Saturday at 5:30pm and Sunday at 2pm.

Adults only at Rosamond Gifford Zoo: craft beer, wine, canned cocktails, food trucks and evening animal exhibits, with music from 3 Of A Kind, Dennis Veator and Peg Newell. The zoo closes to the public at 1pm to set up.

Year seventeen of the sixties and seventies package tour lands at the Crouse Hinds Theater with The Association, The Troggs, Gary Puckett, The Vogues, The Cowsills and Jason Scheff. Doors at 6:30pm.

Oneida Shores Park in Brewerton hosts the Kid's Mile at 8am and the 5K at 8:30am, forty-six years into the run.

Always the second Saturday in August, always Long Branch Park. Highland heavy events, pipe band competition and Celtic music run all day on the shore of Onondaga Lake. Adults $18, kids 5 and under free, cash at the gate.

The Skaneateles Festival orchestra plays Beethoven's Fourth Symphony and Fourth Piano Concerto at Anyela's Vineyards, with Marcelo Lehninger conducting and Jessie Montgomery's Starburst opening.

British Invasion tribute at Johnson Park on Tulip Street, free and outdoors.

Hanover Square runs DJ Joey D at 5pm, the Emanuel Washington Project at 6pm and Double Tiger at 7:30pm.

Soprano Elizabeth Sutphen leads a programme of Copland, Amy Beach, Barber, Ives, Bernstein and a world premiere by Stacy Garrop at First Presbyterian. A 6:30pm prelude features Robinson Award winner Hudson Brenner.

Twenty years and counting in South Park on Bridge Street, every Friday through August 28. Everything is grown or made in Upstate New York.

The Bridge House Brats run their canal side series at Lock One Henley Park, right on the Oswego River. Dockside seating, free.

Oswego's Friday night acoustic series runs at Water Street Square through August 21, free and downtown.

Saturdays in the Canalview Mall lot on Route 481, running to October 10.

ISMA/MSS winged supers plus SBS and 350s on the classic half mile, with a fifty lap feature paying $6,000 to win. Grandstands and warmups at 4pm, time trials at 5pm, heats at 6:30pm.

Gates at 5pm, hot laps at 6pm, racing at 7pm, and the drivers out front signing for the kids.

The EAA hangar on County Route 176 does pancakes, and weather permitting the Young Eagles programme hands out free airplane rides. Adults $12, under fives eat free, pedal planes for the smallest ones.

Vendors fill Lakeview Lanes on West Broadway for the monthly market.

Back at Lock One Henley Park for the Monday half of the Phoenix series.

Wednesdays behind Mexico High School on Main Street, with the Mexico High School Jazz Band on the gazebo this week alongside the vendors and food trucks.

A traditional travelling circus pitches at the Oswego County Fairgrounds in Sandy Creek: aerialists, acrobats, clowns, performing ponies and mini donkeys in ninety minutes.

Coldfront takes the Thursday slot on the Veterans Stage. Free.

Four days citywide from August 6 to 9. Friday brings the parade and a 3v3 basketball tournament straight after it, then country music at the Elks Lodge. Saturday is Canal Days at Canal Place with vendors, food trucks, a citywide garage sale and rock music from 7pm.

Twenty bands across two days at Rome Community Theater on Turin Road, put together by Josh Franchi and Taylor Calhoun of Symmetrical Defiance. Saturday runs noon to midnight. Dry event, vendors free to browse in the lot.

SPACE Old Forge on Route 28 hosts the long-running Adirondack band for the evening.

The Adirondack Railroad runs its beer and wine train out of Utica with The Dovetones aboard.

The stage version comes to the Stanley Theatre on Genesee Street.

Southern rock at The Showroom at Turning Stone.

Turn up dressed as a pirate and the animal food is free. Crafts, games with prizes, a magic show at 11am, a food truck, and appearances from Captain Hook, Tinker Bell and the Blue Lagoon Mermaid.

The Polish Community Club runs its weekend on Saturday from 4pm and Sunday from 1pm to 6pm.

Eight hours of free jazz on the lawn at the historic Beeches in Rome, closing with Gap Mangione & The New Big Band from 6pm. The Hot Club of Syracuse, the Joseph Brothers Clarinet Summit and the 10th Mountain Division Jazz Combo fill the afternoon.

The Capitol Theatre on West Dominick Street opens its Capitolfest weekend early with the 1932 portmanteau comedy. The festival proper runs August 14 to 16.

The puppet musical plays the Ralph F. Strebel Student Center on Burrstone Road.

1812 on the River on Newell Street in Watertown takes the tour.

Third year of the series at the Community Farmstand on West Main Street in Sackets Harbor, with seasonal vendors, a bouncy castle and live music from 11am to 2pm.

Working farms across Lewis County open their gates for the day.

Three days across Auburn from August 7 to 9. Friday opens with First Friday at more than twenty downtown locations and Music on the Mall at the State Street Bandshell from 7pm. Saturday adds a free shuttle between three sites from 10am, a Seward House walking tour at 9:30am and the Purple Lancers at noon.

Fillmore Glen State Park runs a rubber duckie scavenger hunt at 10:15am, a pedal car derby at 11am, pie eating and cupcake checkers at noon, and the Parade of Tubs and bathtub races at 1pm.

The Cold Beer & Country Music tour hits CMAC on Marvin Sands Drive. Doors 6:30pm.

The two-time Grammy winning bassist closes out his run at Lincoln Hill Farms on Route 247 with a rotating cast that has included Melvin Seals, John Kadlecik and Jennifer Hartswick. Doors 6pm, parking $10.

Pop, rock and soul at the Lakefront Gazebo on Lake Front Drive, with Novak on electric fiddle and vocals.

Opening night of the run at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse on East Lake Road, playing through August 29.

Free in the Seward House Museum gardens on South Street, donations suggested.
