Hi {{ first name | reader }},

Happy Friday, 315. America turns 250 this weekend, and the 315 is not doing it quietly. Manlius opens its celebration Friday night with Dark Hollow at the Village Amphitheater. Baldwinsville runs two days of food, vendors, and music. Oneida marks its own 250th on the Fourth, Rome lights up Bellamy Harbor Park, and Norfolk sets out a free community dinner at the arena. From Star Lake to Seneca Falls, nearly every town has planted a flag this week.

The music runs the full range. Vince Gill brings 50 Years from Home to the Oncenter on Thursday, and the same night Conan turns The Song & Dance into a metal show. Colloca Estate Winery hosts a Bonfire tribute to AC/DC on Friday, Austin Jimmy Murphy plays blues and swing at Crazy Daisies, and the Syracuse Orchestra sets up inside Fort Ontario on Wednesday. Uncle Charlie and The Meatballs take the back deck at The Breakaway on Sunday, which is a band name worth the trip on its own.

The North Country does the Fourth the old way. Star Lake fires up an American Legion BBQ, Norfolk hands out free burgers and watermelon, and Cranberry Lake runs its 17th Firecracker Race off the boat launch at 9am. In Ogdensburg, the Morristown trap team throws an all-you-can-eat breakfast and car show to fund their trip to the national championship. Small towns, big turnout.

For a slower pace, there's goat yoga at Fort Rickey in Rome on Tuesday, a History on Tap talk on the Revolutionary War patriots who settled Oswego County, and plant bingo at WeBe Brewing in Geneva. Phoenix opens its first Lavender Festival on Sunday, twenty vendors deep behind Candee's Tree Farm. This week's Foodie Corner heads to Baldwinsville for Olive's Eatery, a scratch kitchen and cafe tucked inside a building full of little shops. More on that below.

Best, Jono

Olive's Eatery - Baldwinsville

Olive's Eatery sits at 25 Syracuse Street in the heart of Baldwinsville, and it comes with a twist: the restaurant shares a heritage building with The Shoppes at Two Twisted Sisters, a cluster of small boutiques all under one roof. You can have brunch and do your shopping without moving your car. That combination is the whole appeal.

Reestablished in 2023, the place was built around a simple idea: a space that feels like home, but better. The kitchen runs on the seasons and leans on nearby family-owned businesses for its ingredients, which keeps the plates fresh and the money local. It's the kind of spot designed for a mid-week lunch with friends or a slow dinner date, not a quick in-and-out.

Mornings start at the Olive & Bee Cafe, with lattes and breakfast. Lunch brings paninis and a trio of warm dips that reviewers keep singling out. Dinner moves to the main room, and Sunday adds brunch, seasonal cocktails, and a house-made Sangria. Everything is made in house, and the menu shifts with what's good that week.

The reviews are consistently warm: fresh, flavorful food, a cozy interior full of locally handcrafted goods, and outdoor seating for the summer. Yelp lists a 95 out of 100 health score. Olive's also runs its own events calendar, including this Thursday's Stitch & Sip embroidery workshop upstairs. It takes reservations, offers takeout and delivery, and closes early in the week, so a Wednesday-through-weekend visit is your best bet.
