Hi {{ first name | reader }},

Happy Friday, 315. Festival season hits full stride this week. The New York State Blues Festival returns to Chevy Court at the Fairgrounds, three days of world-class blues, admission free. The Syracuse Polish Festival brings three days of food, music, dance, a pierogi-eating contest, and the Miss Polonia presentation. Fort Ontario in Oswego stages a biennial Revolutionary War Weekend with a full reenacted siege as part of the America250 celebrations. And the Old Erie Canal Boat Float 'n Folk Festival pairs kayaking and paddling with live music at the Old Erie Canal State Historic Park. Pick a direction and you'll find something happening.

The stage is loaded. Syracuse Stage becomes the first theater in CNY to produce Disney's Frozen: The Broadway Musical. A Beautiful Noise, the Neil Diamond musical built with Diamond himself, plays the Landmark. Jagged Little Pill, the Alanis Morissette musical, runs at Redhouse. Syracuse Shakespeare in the Park returns for its 24th season with King Lear. Players of Utica continues Sweeney Todd. And Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in Auburn opens A Bronx Tale: The Musical. If you like live theater, this is your week.

It's also Pride weekend across much of the region. The CNY Pride Parade and Festival takes over Progress Park at Syracuse's Inner Harbor on Saturday, Potsdam holds its 4th Annual Pride Festival at Ives Park, Rome runs its Pride Fair downtown on Sunday, and Auburn Public Theater hosts a Pride Drag Show. Munson also kicks off a weekend-long Juneteenth observance Thursday evening with art, music, and food, the start of a community-wide celebration across the city.

A few quieter picks worth your time. The Voices from the Valley Ghostwalk takes you through the history of The Valley and present-day Nedrow at Heath Park. The Off The Dock Chamber Festival opens its season with Bach to Bluegrass at the Clift Park Gazebo in Skaneateles. Summer markets are in full swing, from the Fulton Downtown Arts Market to the Oneida County Public Market. And the strawberries are here, with Curtis Manor's annual Strawberry Festival running Sunday in Oswego County. This week's Foodie Corner heads to the north shore of Oneida Lake for The Cleveland House, a cozy lakeside spot turning out some of the best burgers in the region. More on that below.

Best, Jono

New Founding Partner Spotlight

Tallow Soap Co.

Our third Founding Partner does one thing, and does it honestly. Tallow Soap Co. makes soap from four all-natural ingredients: tallow, coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, and castor oil. No fragrance. No fillers. Nothing synthetic. Nothing hidden. In a beauty aisle drowning in synthetic everything, that kind of simplicity is almost radical.

The case for tallow is older than the modern soap industry. It's rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, and it mirrors the fats your skin already makes, which is why people trusted it for centuries before laboratories talked them out of it. Properly rendered, it's nearly odorless. The fragrance-free bar smells of almost nothing, which is the point. Soap isn't supposed to smell like a bakery. It's supposed to clean and rinse and leave your skin better than it found it.

What really sets Tallow Soap Co. apart is how it's sold: by the case, not the bar. One bar lasts three to six weeks, so an 84-pack is a multi-year supply for a single person. The whole premise is stock up once and stop thinking about soap. No subscription box, no reorder every few weeks, no paying for a shipping label every time you run low. Buy a case, put it on a shelf, forget about it for a year or two. It's a refreshingly honest way to sell a daily staple.

315NY isn't only about restaurants and events. It's about the people building real things in this region. Tallow Soap Co. is an independent brand making a genuinely good product with nothing to hide, and that's exactly the kind of business I want this community built around. As a Founding Partner, they help shape where 315NY goes, and they grow alongside it.

Foodie Corner

The Cleveland House - Cleveland

The Cleveland House sits at 118 NY-49 in Cleveland, perched on the north shore of Oneida Lake. It's the kind of place you find by driving the lake loop, a simple, cozy spot that has quietly become one of the best-regarded restaurants on the North Shore. Owner Melissa has restored the building and runs the room with the kind of personal hospitality that shows up in nearly every review. People talk about her by name, and about the stories she'll tell you of the house, both old and new, if you give her the chance.

The food is honest American comfort done well. The burgers are the headliner. The bacon jam gouda burger gets singled out again and again, cooked to order and served with hand-cut fries that reviewers rave about. Beyond the burgers, the menu runs steak bites (juicy and tender, a crowd favorite), the prime rib sandwich, the crispy chicken sandwich, cheesesteak quesadillas, and the stuffed cheddar jalapeño tots that show up in photo after photo. The margarita flatbread, lathered with pesto and balsamic drizzle, works as either an appetizer or a light meal. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the quality is consistent.

The drinks hold up their end. There's a standard light beer lineup plus Heineken and Guinness, and if you ask the bartender, a deeper craft selection of five or six IPAs on rotation. Cocktails and wine round out a well-stocked bar. The pours are generous, the bartenders know their stuff, and the room fills with a friendly mix of locals, lake visitors, and the occasional ice fisherman fresh off the water in the colder months.

The setting is the closer. Outdoor tables look right out onto Oneida Lake, and the sunset over the water is the reason to time your visit for the evening. Live music is a regular feature, and the room has a warm, hometown feel that makes you want to come back. The Cleveland House holds a 4.7 rating across 130 reviews on one aggregator, strong showings on Yelp and Restaurantji, and a steady spot on "best of the North Shore" lists. It's open Wednesday through Sunday. Closed Monday and Tuesday.
