Hi {{ first name | reader }},
Happy Friday, 315. Summer concert season officially opens this week. Jason Mraz brings his Still Yours Tour to the Landmark on Sunday. Anvil, the Canadian metal pioneers immortalized in the documentary, plays Song & Dance on Wednesday. Frontiers, "the world's number one tribute to Journey," plays Clayton on Friday night. And on Wednesday, the Island Takeover Launch Party kicks off a brand new summer tradition on Papermill Island in Baldwinsville, a full season of live music and events running June through September. If you weren't sure whether the 315 had a summer music scene, you've got your answer.
The food calendar is stacked. Picklepalooza takes over Prison City in Auburn on Saturday with pickle-themed specialty menus and pickle-and-beer pairings. Beef Day at the Oneida County Public Market features cuts prepared by MVCC Culinary students. Downtown Syracuse Food Tours runs a five-stop tour through Armory Square covering pasta, BBQ, beef on weck, and historic desserts. Coleman's kicks off its Summer Block Party on Friday. And on Saturday, the Utica Masjid Eid Carnival celebrates the close of Eid al-Adha with a family carnival on the masjid grounds.
The North Country is doing its own thing this week. Train Rides in Ives Park opens for the season on Saturday with an electric train ride for all ages in Potsdam. The Recycled Materials Basket workshop at View in Old Forge teaches basket-weaving from reclaimed materials with local basket maker Linda Martin. And Sam & Dunes, the long-awaited return of Sam Pruyn and Gary Dunes, plays the Tiki Bar at Riveredge Resort in Alexandria Bay with a setlist running from the 60s to the 2000s.
A few standouts worth your weekend. The Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn opens two exhibitions Saturday: "T3%+!le$ - The Language of Fiber," a Surface Design Association juried show exploring language in art, and "People Seen, Places Been," a solo exhibition by emerging Rochester artist Haley Indorato shown across both the Schweinfurth and the Cayuga Museum. The Capitol Theatre in Rome presents Bawdy Betty, an adults-only screening of classic Fleischer Studios cartoons featuring Betty Boop and Koko the Clown. And Utica Zoo's Gibbon Baby Shower celebrates Artoo, a 5-month-old White-handed Gibbon born in December. This week's Foodie Corner heads to West Cayuga Street in Oswego for Pierogi & Pints, the new Polish spot that grew out of a food truck and where the owner makes the pierogis from scratch every day. More on that below.

Pierogi & Pints - Oswego

Pierogi & Pints sits at 17 West Cayuga Street in downtown Oswego, a small storefront that owner Donnie Halczyn found through a Facebook Marketplace listing after running a food truck called Babcia's Boyz for a year. The brick-and-mortar opened in early 2026, and the early reviews are unanimous. Every Google review so far has been five stars. Servers describe nights where the restaurant runs out of pierogis because certain flavors sell so fast they never make it to the freezer.
Halczyn is a Syracuse native who grew up around Polish food and wanted to bring traditional Polish cuisine to Oswego. Every pierogi on the menu (except the Buffalo Chicken) is handmade in-house, often on the same day it's sold. The lineup rotates: potato and cheddar, sweet cheese, spinach, and a few others depending on the day. Halczyn's pick is the potato and cheddar, which he describes as the kind of pierogi that "will knock your face off." On a busy night, they'll run out of a flavor by 8pm.
The signature dish is the Picnic Platter: three pierogis, one golabki (stuffed cabbage), one kielbasa with sauteed onions and sauerkraut, rye bread and butter, and a side of your choice. It's the most ordered item on the menu and what most reviewers tell their friends to get. The kielbasa gets called out specifically as "perfect and snappy" by an early Google reviewer who'd followed the food truck through the summer.
Desserts are made by Halczyn's wife, Melissa Allard. The lineup rotates but cream puffs and chocolate cake show up regularly. The full liquor license is expected by June 8, which will bring multiple Polish beers on draft and a selection of traditional Polish vodkas. The food truck continues to operate alongside the storefront, traveling to larger events through the summer while the West Cayuga location serves Oswego daily.
Address: 17 W Cayuga St, Oswego, NY 13126
Hours: Tue-Wed 2-9pm | Thu-Sat 12-9pm (extended hours coming with liquor license)
